I had the privilege of being one of the artists in residence at the Midway Gallery in San Francisco over the past Spring. The residency culminated in a two-person exhibit of work with my fellow AIR, aer entitled, Blooms of Jeweled Seaweed.
During the 3+ month period, I took advantage of the space’s high ceilings, working on large-scale paintings and drawings on paper as well as corresponding hanging sculptures. Taking previous work and sources with seaweed references, I created new work referencing the art itself, forcing myself in a sort-of “meta” experience as an artist. I took the time to further reflect on personal mental and emotional challenges, with the aspiration that the final result would allow others to connect to their own.
